We meet most Monday evenings throughout the year from September to May. During early summer we meet at outdoor locations in the area to get down to some serious picture taking!

If you would like to come along to see what we do, please feel free to do so without obligation. If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask - members will be happy to help you. And don’t be put off by some of the good images you will see - the photographers in this club have a range of abilities and even the good ones started with less experience than they have now!

Club Evenings

From September to early June we meet on Monday evenings at 7.30pm. We have a programme of events which include practical evenings, competitions and talks from visiting photographers. Typically, we break at mid point for tea and conversation for about 20 minutes and then finish at around 9.30 to 9.45pm.

Practical Evenings

We include a number of practical evenings in our programme, where we set up a studio or table top at the club house, so members can have a go at the different aspects of photography which are being introduced.

Other practical evenings will allow us to see various photographic, printing or presentation techniques demonstrated.

Editing Evenings

We use Zoom to hold editing evenings during the season. These provide a chance to ask questions about image editing and to share hints and tips on Photoshop, Lightroom and other editing software.

Social Events

On the programme you may have seen that we hold social events during the year. They are always informal affairs and may invlove meeting at a local pub or restaurant or a bus trip for a photographic day out.

Competitions

The monthly competition is between club members and is in two parts, one for prints and one for digital images.

We also have informal competitions for images taken during our summer evenings out.

Inter-club competitions give us the chance to meet members of other clubs in the South Wales area and vie for the trophies on offer.

Covid-19

Update 12th June 2023

After running successful hybrid meetings for hall and Zoom attendees between January 2022 and June 2022, with speakers either in the hall or remote, the September 2022 to June 2023 season successfully returned to "normal" Monday evenings at the hall with Zoom being used only for occasional remote speakers and editing evenings.

The 2023-24 season continues with normal hall evenings and occasional external speakers shown in the hall on Zoom.

The Pandemic

Moving online - and off again

As the pandemic struck in March 2020 the club moved online and began using Zoom with the first online meeting held on 25 March 2020. We continued to operate throughout lockdowns with the benefit of being able to engage speakers who, geographically, would never have been able to attend in person.

While Zoom provided the means to continue through the pandemic, in person meetings started again from January 2022 and for the season September 2022 to June 2023 we successfully returned to "normal" evenings at the hall.
